Custom Metadata

Custom Metadata allows you to create highly personalized and individually tailored experiences for your Attendees.

Custom Metadata shines when you need to prepare things like table assignments or incorporate Attendee survey responses into their App experience.

Creating new Custom Metadata

Custom Metadata is created from the Event Settings page by selecting "+ Add New" within the Event Metadata section.

You have a few choices to make when preparing new Custom Metadata:

  • What name would you like the system to use? This is the Tag.
  • What name would you like to be visible to Attendees? This is the Display Name
  • Where in your Event do you want to use this Custom Metadata? This will be the Category.

The Categories determine where your Metadata will be visible in the App:

  • Uncategorized means that you can manually insert this Metadata anywhere in the app you are able to add text.
  • Agenda means that this Metadata is designed for use in the Agenda.
  • Personal means that this Metadata will be visible on Attendee Profiles.
  • Fun Facts means that this Metadata will be visible as a new Fun Facts panel within Attendee Profiles.

Personal vs. Fun Facts

You might ask: "what's the difference between Personal Metadata and Fun Facts Metadata? They both end up in the same place... right?

Close! But there's one crucial difference: Personal Metadata is displayed alongside basic information like Name, City, Company, and Region. Fun Facts Metadata appears under a separate "Fun Facts" banner. The Fun Facts banner is only visible on an Attendee's Profile if that Attendee has Fun Facts filled in on their Profile.

Using Custom Metadata

You can call on any Metadata field you've established by entering text in double brackets {{like_this}}. While it will look strange in the page preview, when an Attendee accesses your event, they will only see the specific value that's been saved for them under that name.

An Example:

My event has Custom Metadata with the tag "Team_Role" and the Display Name "Team Role."

I want users to see their Team Role right on the Home Page, so at the top of the Home Page I write: "Welcome {{name}}! Your Team Role is {{team_role}}."

Keep in mind that Uncategorized Metadata will only display properly if each Attendee has a value saved. Otherwise your Attendees might see something awkward like {{table_assignment}} right on the Home Page!
